About
Points, managed like capital
The Points Investor is for people who already manage budgets and portfolios and want the same rigor for their airline miles and hotel points: price the asset, build the position, and only spend it when the return beats cash.
The author
Francesco Gaini has spent his career in finance and strategy: about ten years as a Partner at the Boston Consulting Group, then senior finance roles in European payments, where he has worked on an IPO, large cost programs and organic growth plans. He holds an MBA from Kellogg.
He has travelled to more than 60 countries and treats a loyalty balance the way he treats any balance sheet: every currency has a value, every redemption has an opportunity cost, and the numbers decide. Before consulting he wrote about technology as a journalist, which is why the book explains the math in plain words.
The Points Investor is the method he built for his own travel, written down so that anyone comfortable with a spreadsheet can use it.
The Points Challenge ambassadors
Bandit, Dot, Grant and Pip host The Points Challenge. They are AI characters, and we say so on every post. The trips they book are priced with real fares, real award space and real hotel rates, each checked and dated, and scored with the same formulas as the book.
What we stand for
- The number first. Every claim is priced in points and in cash, with its date and source.
- Points are never free. They could have paid for something else, so every comparison counts them at their value.
- No recommendation changes for a commission. Where a link earns us money we say so, and we only link to what we would recommend anyway.
- Education, not advice. We explain the method and the math; the decisions are yours.
